World Academy of Engineering

Recognising excellence and mobilising high-level engineering expertise.

The World Academy of Engineering (WAE) is a flagship initiative of WFEO to recognise excellence and mobilise high-level engineering expertise in support of the WFEO Strategic Plan 2026–2035 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Academy focuses on forming a selective community of distinguished engineers whose experience can be deployed for complex projects, policy processes and institutional reforms, particularly in developing countries. Its launch was announced by the WFEO President on World Engineering Day, 4 March 2026.

Core functions

  • Serve as WFEO’s premier platform for recognising excellence and leadership in engineering for sustainable development.
  • Provide advanced expert advice, on request, to governments, development partners, industries and international organisations.
  • Support the WFEO Institute in designing and delivering advanced mentoring, peer-learning and knowledge-exchange programmes.
  • Champion ethics, diversity and intergenerational dialogue, creating visible role models, especially for women and young engineers.

How the Academy’s space could be organised

Fellows

A directory of Academy fellows, with expertise areas and regions, so a request can be matched to the right people.

Request expertise

A route for governments, development partners and international organisations to ask the Academy for advice.

Nominations

How fellows are nominated and elected, once WFEO sets the rules.

The format (a section of the WFEO site, or its own environment sharing the same sign-in) is a recommendation we would make in discovery.
